Amy, Amy, Amy

"I cheated myself - Like I knew I would - I told ya, I was trouble - You know that I'm no good."
Amy Winehouse never sugarcoated her lyrics, she never sugarcoated any aspect of her life and I respect that. I never tire of playing her music and am capable of playing the same album over and over again until someone stops me, trouble is, now it is tinged with sadness.
This artist had it all, great voice, amazing songwriting skills and a quirky sense of fashion style. She was a unique hot mess of retro girl group eye shadow meets heroin chic meets New Jersey big hair and it worked, at least for me. I mentioned her in an earlier post and included a video that pretty much visually summed up everything I like about her, take a look. Do not get me wrong, she is not a video star, she is best savored sans imagery, simply listen.
In the end, her prophetic lyrics "I cheated myself" rang true, unfortunately we are all cheated and must settle for the small body of masterly work she left behind, of which I shall never tire.

Esta menina da voz tão bela,tão corajosa em sua maneira de vestir, ela era uma estrela e não sabia disso. Agora ela brilha em algum lugar no infinito.

I shall never tire of her music either. There can only be sadness left now when we think of her.

I am very partial to a raw, smoky voice and Amy didn't disappoint. As I have said elsewhere, she and I spent many a happy hour together, me doing the ironing, she singing for me. My family think I'm potty - a middle-aged, respectable woman confessing to being a fan of a cats-eyed, beehived scrap of a girl. Well, she was everything I wanted to be as a girl - a jazz singer, but after a middle life of a 20-a-day habit, I was left not with velvet tones, but a voice that could scrape fat off the inside of an oven...

As Russell Brand said, with someone like Amy, there is always going to be a phone call, and for me, it was the radio bulletin...RIP Amy.

I bought Frank when it came out and then Back to Black as soon as it hit the shelves. Couldn't believe the change in her! But I adored Back to Black - it's full of such fantastic tunes (even if the lyrics make my 10 yr old son a bit confused!).

Her odds WERE stacked.

I only came across her lately...thanks to blogging...and was astounded by her talent.
I hope she'll be remembered for that rather than for her end.

Hello David, I felt so sad and physically sick when I heard the news, I simply adored her and her music. I had hoped that she could come out the other side but that was not to be.

This is a beautiful post and a wonderful tribute, we have been cheated and I will never tire of listening to her music either.

An unfortunate and sad departure made you return to your blog, positive comes out of negative. I totally agree with you about Amy, I too am a great fan and never tire listening and watching her concert held in London. She was extraordinary and timeless in her looks and her voice. She will never be forgotten...

I love her, too, David. I was certainly not shocked by her death, but definitely saddened.

Much love to you,

Love the way you whisper ... Amy, Amy, Amy. Whisper and sigh just the way she was crying her life, love, addiction and all.

David,
I agree with everything you said ...
She had a short journey, but richly, unique.

Yes, very sad. I am also a huge fan: could never believe such an amazing voice came out of such a tiny person. I have had her on the iPod constantly.

Miss you.

She was perfect herself. She wasn't any comercial. Everything in her was pure passion.

Couldn't agree more. May her songs be sung till the end of time.

I obviously missed something. I didn't know Amy Winehouse until I heard of her death. I'm probably too old, out of that circuit.

I value the comments you make about her talent. Someone like you can't be wrong.

I also followed the link to your post about Antonio Lopez. Hopping from post to post on your blog is a real treat.

I posted a photo of stilettos today which remind me of your banner image...
