Back in the Saddle, Again

My life of late has, frankly, sucked. My computer, cell phone, and television all died within weeks of each other. Like lemmings or members of some misguided cult, they all committed mass suicide for reasons which are beyond me, this has happened to me in the past. I shall bore you all no further with the details except to say that I am still struggling to get back on my technological feet and am lost without Photoshop.
What I have learned from this experience is that the best computer hospital in Manhattan is Tekserve on 23rd Street. The sympathetic staff provide tissues at every counter, they have witnessed every desperate emotion and possess the tactful skills of a funeral director, they are also a fraction of the price I was quoted from other places. They retrieved the files off my old hard drive for 47.50 as opposed to the 749.00 quote from creepy Computer Overhauls, Tekserve even carried my computer out to the street while I hailed a cab. I would like to thank my friend and neighbor Amy for recommending this place to me. Despite the fact that Amy spends most of her time collecting bugs and leafs from the Amazon rainforest, she knows a lot about Manhattan.
This drawing is the companion piece to the Jockey illustration I featured in an earlier post commisioned by Town and Country. Like the thrown rider, I shall dust off my humbled behind and get back on that technological horse.

Hey David
Another great illustration.. I think that is me tumbling down the hill!

Good to have you back... I can commiserate ... since moving.. my trial photoshop ran out.. my internet works only when it feels like it... My tv has all but given up the ghost... has no green and last night started making hissing and snapping noises at me and now every movie is film noir!... tonight I will be watching 'radio'

So congrats on winning Carla's book... Some good luck in your recent troubled times... Have a great weekend...xxx Julie

Oh technology...at times, I love it and it is a blessed gift. At others, well, I simply cannot abide it. Glad you're managing to get back onto the technological horse - let's hope it's a smooth ride from here :D

$47.50 vs. $749.00?

could make any sane man's head explode.

I feel your pain. I just got a nasty virus on my PC of only a year. Hubby tells me I am a virus magnet.

My solution? I switched over to my Mac exclusively. I have a growing stack of PC hardrives that need to be rescued. I have lost a lot of scans of my sold artwork on them.

I don't live in NYC (LI based) but you have given me hope of finding someone who will not rape me to retrieve my work off the drives.

Keep you techno chin up!
Diane

Oy. I can live without my cell phone, even my TV, but my computer? Nope. I'm LOST without it.
Good for you for picking yourself up and getting "back in the saddle"!

Oh David, so glad to see you back, I have missed you.

Funny how things always go wrong in threes, must be something in the air loads of people are having technical breakdowns at the moment. I am sure the powers that be program things to malfunction at a certain time, thus we all have to rush out and spend money on the latest technology which will no doubt also be programmed to malfunction at a certain date and time in the future...or am I just being cynical?

O, it sucks to have all of those die all at once...I don't know how I'd live without a computer and not having a cell phone makes me a little naked :)
The drawing is quite lovely...

Glad to see you back, I love this piece, a very familiar sight in these parts and after this week ( the murder of my black chickens) I wish they would let them finish the job.. too many foxes. Oh god I hope I don't cause a load of hate mail now

love this illustration! if you feel like the jockey in your drawing, of course you know what you have to do - draw a jockey taming his horse and riding off successfully into the sunset :)

Wow! My internet is out at home, so I'm very limited to how much posting I can do, if any. I'm glad you were able to find a reputable and reasonable computer repair shop. It's devastating how many places try to drain you dry for these services. Ghastly!

Hope you're doing well otherwise and as per usual, I enjoy my visits here immensely!

Have a great day!

Glad you were able to dust yourself off for just 47.50. Egads, the alternative price was robbery. Still, you managed to write an entertaining post despite the troubles. Love the Jockeys.

David,
you must have gone through an astrological configuration that triggers a domino effect on facts... ahh...
no one escapes!
we feel so... falling off the horse like this beautiful picture ;)
other day we were without power for two hours and a half, and felt angry and helpless!
unfortunately we are dependent on technological horses!

I understand. This is one time you can be happy not to live in France which has a decidedly different definition of time and management than we do.

Works great for dinner parties, less well for tech equipment.

You are sooooo brilliantly talented.
