Bugger Off you Gits

It is Independence Day here in the States, more commonly referred to as the Fourth of July.
On this date in 1776 we declared independence from the evil Kingdom of Great Britain. Fireworks are set off in celebration, barbecues are lit and picnic blankets spread.
While it is fun to listen to each state butcher the English language in their own unique way, I suspect we all envy the fact that England has NHS, a national health care system. Perhaps we should have paid that tea tax, far cheaper than my cancer surgery.
I love America, I just cannot afford to get sick here.

I hope you have a wonderful 4th of July, David :) And yes, we Britons have much to be proud of and much to be ashamed of :)

Hi David,

It's my first visit, and like you, I cannot afford to get sick here...Mr. O's insurance reform will not help me at all, either.

Happy 4th...

I actually hummed "Your a Grand Old Flag" as the fireworks boomed overhead, while sitting in my comfy lawn chair sipping wine.

Old habits die hard....

Hi David, Hope you had a good independence day, sorry to hear that you had to go through cancer.
The UK is very lucky to have the much maligned but wonderful and essential NHS. I cannot understand why anybody would be in opposition to 'free healthcare for all' which is the ethos of the NHS. I think most Brits take it for granted, I know I got a hell of shock when visiting the local GP when I first came to France and at the end of the consultation had to pay the doctor.

I can't afford to get sick here either. So shameful, the way the richest country in the world doesn't even take care of its citizens, the ones who help make it rich and powerful.

You had cancer surgery? Are you okay? WTF?

This is something that is always in the back of my mind. We all have to live with our fingers crossed in this country. It's not right.

I hope you're feeling okay and that you had a good 4th.

David, a real hug for you!

I wish you much health, for
never to need the health system.

Hi David,

I hope you recovered 100% of your surgery!

As for the health care, I come form a country where the national health care system exists theoretically, so we pay for it. But practically, if you want to be well (or just correctly) treated, you have to bribe the doctor. So, we pay two times: once for the state, once into the docs "black" pocket. :-( That is one of the reasons why I am not living my country. I hate corruption!

Greetings David,
I have not visited in a while and I was shocked to hear of your cancer ordeal.
I am pleased you are doing well and hope your 4th of July was a memorable one.
Do take care, cheers.

Oh, my. I'm glad you're okay. I agree with you as far as health care goes in this country: the priority is not with preventive medicine. That would take too much money out of the pockets of the pharmaceuticals. Just imagine, if you could afford preventive health care, they would be out of business.

On the up side, I love your illustration. I also loved the party scene in the previous illo. Have a great weekend and be well.
