Four Weddings and a Robbery

This illustration was originally published in Brides Magazine and "borrowed" by Steve Paster of Alpine Creative Group for his own use in promoting his custom invitation printing business. I took him to court and won but he had creatively hidden his assets years before he stole from me. I did not collect a cent. Mr. Paster continues to cater to a rather dubious clientele which can be looked upon as his just desserts.
Illustrators, photographers, calligraphers, beware of this unscrupulous thief. I had never heard of this man until my work appeared on his promotional stationary.
Sometimes you just lose despite being right. I am not the first nor will I be the last.
In celebration of unions planned with joy, honesty, and in honor of my goddaughter Olivia's recent marriage, I would like to post some family wedding photos.
The first image is of my Uncle John and Aunt Evelyn who always traveled in style with their alligator skin portable bar containing bourbon and gin.
The second photo is of my Aunt Kaki Burke who enjoyed a discrete Whiskey Sour out of range of the lens.
The last photo is of my mom with my dapper dad sporting a white dinner jacket in the background. No illusions, they loved and drank and I was born.

What a fantastic story behind each wedding photo. So lovely and glamorous they all are! I am sorry about the theft of your art work. Karma will take care of that, right?
on a side-note, the white tuxedo jacket on these men are so fabulous. I have always wanted to see my husband wearing one. stylish family you have!

I love seeing old photo's and hearing about the subjects. The second one is quite stunning.

So sad about the theft, must have been quite harrowing, court and all.

I like your illustrations and I totally agree about theft of intellectual property. Bad publicity is about the only recourse sometimes. Good blog.

I am sad to read about this plagiary! It is disgusting to steel somebody`s idea or work and making profit of it!

The illustration is gorgeous! Even if I don´t want to get married, somehow, this drawing makes me want to wear a dress like this. The picture of the real people is very lovely!

HI David
I just popped over to that site and find it hard to believe they cater to the stars.. I found it an exercise in bad taste... I guess that is why they need to steal from others ...

Love the photo of your mum.. great smile!! xx Julie

Oh Mr Paster will get his comeuppance!

I love that photograph of your parents wedding, they look gorgeous but they also look like a pair of naughty children, they have clearly just been up to something.

These photos are beautiful indeed. I love the vintage wedding dresses, they are absolutely stunning. I'm so sorry for your ordeal. Your work is so good, I guess people are just too lazy to create their own. At least you had the forsight to warm us about this sheister.

Have a great day, my friend.

Dear Orchid,
I did not attend these weddings although I am sure I would have been on the guest list had I been born at the time.
As for my age, don't ask, don't tell.
Yes, life is indeed crazy for me but you keep me young.

I love all these old photos.
They show to us the past story that we could not live.
Great post. :)

What a disgrace! I can't believe taking the thief to court made no difference. The best thing then is do what you do, let the world know!

Lovely wedding photos and stories behind them.

I love all your illustrations, it brings me back to my old F.I.T days. Your illustrations are stylish and have a great classic feel. Thanks for sharing your family photos. Sorry to hear about the theft of your art, I can’t imagine how infuriating that must have been, especially since he was hiding his assets.
Cheers,
Teri

what an ass for stealing your work & hiding his money! that's so frustrating. i love the illustration though. and those photos (along with your stories) are great!! i display an old family wedding photo in my house. it was taken in 1906 & looks so cool next to a photo of me & my fiancé. i love the contrast. :)

Hi David
thank you for following my blog. I really enjoyed the way you post this wedding subject. For one negative story you find 4 positive aspects. If it was a soccer game you won 4-1. That makes you an optimist guy...
Best regards from Portugal!
